This Mental institution is clean and safe for employees and patients, like it suppose to be. Some patients do not like that some doors are lock, but is part of security. Some patients are admitted by court order against their will and is understandable their frustration. Treating mental issues is emotionally and physically challenging for families and medical personnel as well, i have seen the medical team deal in a very compassionate and caring and as delicate it can be to manage verbally and physically aggressive patients. I recommend this institution for patients and families who are going through difficult times.

I was there for 7 days. My friends at home were terrified for me because they saw all the bad reviews but I had to reassure them that I was fine. People at Winnebago will complain about rude staff but the staff is only rude when the continuously get disrespected by patients which I've witnessed. As long as you are respectful to the staff then they will be respectful back and try to help you out with what they can. Considering the circumstances of why the patients are admitted there, it's understandable for a bit of the prison like living situation but if you look at things negatively then they will be negative. They do this for the safety of patients, better safe than sorry. I will admit the food isn't wonderful but at least it isn't horrible and we have food as well. Regarding recovery wise, I didn't get too much help, group time was really just socialization time. But they helped talk things out and answered questions to the best extent when I had them. A lot of times the doctors weren't available immediately but considering how many people are in the building versus how many doctors they actually have, it's understandable as well. I hate to hear all these bad reviews because it really isn't that bad at all.

I have never been here and I am possibly going their soon because my stupid ass case worker wants to send me their cause I constantly self harm and make several suicidal ideations anyone wanna give me tips?

the food is poisoned and the employees were very rude, this place will make you go insane, when i was there lots of people talked about seeing a dead man in their room. the rooms are dark and drafty and the lights flicker.

This place is very much like a prison. I was diagnosed with schizophrenia (which I now know was incorrect) and held here for two weeks. They lie and belittle you. When you are "mentally ill", you do not have any rights. If anything has shown me that the government is not to be trusted, it is being taken here. They basically plucked me off the street, told me I was mentally ill, and drove me 2 hours from Madison to Winnebago. This caused me to lose my house (I was unable to look for a job as an in-patient). They eventually stepped me down to another place, Dane County Care Center (aka Tellurian Care Center), and from there my parents bailed me out. If you're taken here, PLAY THE GAME. Do drink the kool-aid, if you try to argue you will only make things worse.
